Local Learning

By Melanie Brooks

On Wednesday night I attended a Hands On Technology Class given by Downeast Learning Workshops. Nicole Ouellette from Breaking Even Communications and Matthew Baya from Svaha LLC make up the dynamic duo that is Downeast Learning Workshops. These two local consultants gave a great presentation on Search Engine Optimization.

The Underpants!

By Melanie Brooks

I went to see this show at the Penobscot Theatre last night and it was AWESOME! I had a smile plastered on my face the entire way through.

The set itself was expertly done. I was amazed at how the entire stage was completely transformed into a funky apartment. I loved how the set designers even made nosy Gertrude's upstairs apartment viewable. The colors were crazy, the costumes were perfect, and the acting was hilarious.

Underpants

Well hello there! How's your day going today? Not so good? No worries. We have a new contest that will be sure to put a smile on your face.

Bangor Metro has scored 4 free tickets to see The Underpants at the Penobscot Theater. We've got 2 for Friday, June 4th and 2 for Saturday June 5th -- both shows are at 8 pm.

What's it all about? It's comedian Steve Martin's wild satire adapted from the classic German farce about Louise and Theo Markes, a couple whose conservative existence is
shattered when Louise’s bloomers fall down in public. Though she pulls them up quickly, he thinks the incident will cost him his job as a government clerk.

So of course you want to see it. But seeing it for free is just the icing on the cake, isn't it? Here's how to win tickets:

Send your funniest or most embarrassing story about underpants to melanie@bangormetro.com. It could be about your underpants, your friends underpants, or even your kids underpants. Melanie's two favorite stories will win tickets and be published on the blog so everyone else can laugh with (or at) you.

Entries will be accepted until noon on June 1st so don't wait! Please put "underpants" in the subject line of your message.

Anah Temple Shrine Circus

By Melanie Brooks

On Sunday, my mother and I took my 3-year-old niece, Ayda, to the circus. The clowns terrified her beyond the point of reason last year, so we made sure to talk a lot about how friendly and nice the clowns really were on the way to the show this year. Still, she didn't like them and clung to me like a baby monkey.

I hadn't been to the circus in years but the smell of popcorn, cotton candy, and plastic toys brought me back to my 10-year-old self. Luckily Ayda didn't clamor for a gigantic blow-up alien or a light up butterfly. I did get us a sno-cone however, as the auditorium severely lacked in fresh air with all the bodies stuffed in there for the show.

While Ayda enjoyed the tigers and dog acts, my favorite was the young hula hooper. She was amazing! I posted some photos of her below in the slideshow. The clowns, as always, were a major part of the show and spent about an hour before the show greeting people outside the auditorium as well as blowing up balloons inside the auditorium and sending them sailing into the crowd. The kids loved it and even some of the parents got into it, reaching for the floating balloons just out of their grasp.
