2010 Gubernatorial Candidates

The primary election for governor is coming up June 8. There are a lot of candidates vying for your vote for the next Governor of Maine, so we decided to compile a list of the candidates and their platforms to help readers become more informed. Today we're featuring Paul LePage. Check back Tuesday to get a glimpse of Matthew Jacobson and Shawn Moody.

  • Eliminate teaching to national assessments
  • Allow teachers to create learning environments that challenge all students to excel in their own strengths
  • Increase school year and decrease class sizes

  • Government
  • Propose to eliminate statewide fees on start-up businesses, bizarre and unreasonable studies, and regulations that are incompatible with other regulations

  • Taxes
  • Reduce overall tax burden for all Maine citizens

  • Welfare
  • Establish a statewide residency requirement for general assistance and a benefit limit to 5 years
  • Require general assistance recipients to do community service work
  • Encourage recipients to seek better wages without immediately losing their benefits
